Warriors Are Their Word

Warriors Are Their Word.

I remember Jim Rohn saying, “For every promise, there is a price to pay.”  Those who live with the Warrior’s Edge understand this completely.  They know the power of being someone others can count on.  It is imperative for a warrior to keep his or her word, and if you live as a warrior, keeping your word is a sacred part of your personal honor.

As warriors, we make it a habit to not say we will deliver on something we know we can’t, whether it’s promising to do something, keeping a  secret, or saying we will be someplace at a certain time.

When you break your word, you break trust.  Without trust, there is no relationship.  We must always remember that words have meaning, whether or not we mean them.  When we tell someone we will do something, we are creating expectations. Keeping our word builds trust.  Trust gives us security.  Security builds healthy and happy relationships.  As warriors, we serve others.  To serve, we must be trusted by those we serve and have relationships with.  Therefore, we must keep our word.  This service is based in honor, and to warriors, honor is made of three basic tenets: Obligation. Justice. Courage.  While much could be written on these three tenets, for purposes here, we must remember that giving our word obligates us to keep it, and the only honorable thing is to honor our obligations.

Bottom line, when you make a promise, you follow through.  When you say “I promise” or “you have my word,” it’s a done deal.  Period.  You do as promised.  That’s it, that’s all.

“Losers make promises they often break.  Winners make commitments they always keep.”
