Be Positive Rather Than Bash People In Martial Arts

Here is a little video rant I filmed on the topic:

Strong PeopleEach of us only has 24 hours each day. As Zig Ziglar said, “Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.”

So what is your direction? Do you want to help, inspire and teach people and make things better? Or do you want to criticize and make fun of others because it is easier to “expose the truth” or simply make fun of people?

There is so much negativity, anger, and fear in the world. Why not try to be the opposite? Why not help people up rather than put them down?

Here is a 5 part challenge:

1. See how many people you can smile at each day and give a genuine warm greeting to. (In person is best, but on-line counts.)
2. Do one thing each day to help someone else with no expectation of anything in return.
3. Post at least one positive thing to one of your social media outlets each day.
4. Compliment at least one person for something each day.
5. If you see someone training in a way you don’t like, go train yourself. Go train! Don’t worry about what others are doing, go improve yourself. In fact, read a book, take a course, go to class, start improving yourself so you can help even more people.

Let’s all look at the philosophy found in many martial arts and work at bettering ourselves, our families, our communities, our countries and our world. Be a force for good. Be a force for what’s right.

Is this all “kumbaya?” Maybe, but what is wrong with wanting to make a positive difference? What is wrong with being nice to people? What is wrong with wanting to make our lives and those we interact with a little better?  A little more friendly? A little nicer?

We practice the martial arts for different reasons, but why can’t one of them be to be better human beings and nicer toward our fellow martial artists and people in general?

I think it can. How about you?
