Logic Of Violence with Rory Miller

Logic of ViolenceLogic Of Violence: Think Like A Criminal with Rory Miller is an exceptional dvd that covers an area often neglected or missing from many self-defense programs. No, it doesn’t teach super secret techniques that will enable the viewer to vanquish hoards of ninjas attacking from the shadows. Nor will watching it make you a Special Forces operator or Navy SEAL. What you will learn are some very important concepts and strategies to keep you safe.

Do you know the various types of predators and the most common real-life violent assaults that occur? Are you a self-defense student, or instructor, that focuses only on physical “fighting techniques?” (If you are only giving lip service to awareness and a lot of other concepts, it is the same as only focusing on the physical techniques.) If you are not studying and teaching the concepts and information presented in this DVD, you are missing a huge component of real self-defense. As Miller states, too often self-defense and martial art instructors are teaching fighters how to fight fighters, and calling it self-defense for everyone. If you teach self-defense, you need to be teaching the concepts in this DVD. If you are interested in keeping yourself safe, you need to study and learn the information presented here by Miller.

Much of this program is lecture in a class room. Miller is shown teaching a small audience of instructors, along with their questions and feedback.  If you can’t attend a live presentation by Miller, this is the next best thing. He’s not trying to impress anyone about how “bad” he is (and as someone who’s trained with Miller, he is), but rather teach tools and concepts to keep people safe. The bulk of this program is designed to get the audience to get inside the mind of criminals and determine who they would target. Once you know that, you can keep yourself from falling into the target demographic. Avoiding is the key. Knowing what a criminal wants and is looking for is the first step to knowing how to avoid being his selected target, and well as better preparing yourself to physically defend yourself if it gets to that situation.

Some of the key concepts you will learn about are types of violence, violent places, Triune Brain Theory, methodology of predators, kinds of assaults, the Monkey Dance, and what you need to know about violence to stay safe.  While much of the three hour program is filmed inside the classroom, there are segments where Miller teaches concepts (and even a few physical techniques/principles) inside a bar and outside on the street.

If you are not familiar with violence, real violence, not what’s shown on television and the movies, this DVD will open your eyes and allow you to recognize the glitches in your own thinking and understand concepts such as emotional dominance, your nightmare opponent, and how to eliminate the mental issues and conditioning that can hinder reaction speed during a real-life assault. By recognizing the types of violence and the places were violence occurs most frequently, you will be much better prepared to avoid violence and prevail when you can’t.

This is an excellent resource that I highly recommend to supplement any and all self-defense programs.
